NZ Certificate in Public Health + Promotion Suicide Intervention + Prevention Level 5

Enrolments are now open for the NZ Certificate in Public Health and Promotion (Level 5) with a focus on Suicide Intervention and Prevention, delivered in Taupō. This NZQA-approved programme equips participants with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to recognise warning signs, respond appropriately to suicide risk, support individuals and their whānau, and contribute to stronger community responses.

The programme begins on 2 March 2026 and runs for one semester (18 weeks). Delivery includes three consecutive days of wānanga each month, combined with online learning, tutorials, and community-based projects. Participants will learn about mental health, suicide prevention frameworks, assessment and management of risk, and the wider social and cultural factors that impact wellbeing, including the effects of colonisation and marginalisation on whānau Māori.

The course is free to study. Applicants must be aged 19 years or over, be working (paid or unpaid) with Māori or within a Māori community, be prepared to study at tertiary level, and be subject to NZ Police vetting. This programme is suited to those wanting to make a meaningful difference in their workplace and community through informed, compassionate, and culturally grounded practice.
