The Lake Taupō area is known for fishing, sailing, cycling, adventures by land and lake, Māori culture experiences and so much more.

Catch rainbow or brown trout or go fly fishing with a local guide up one of the many rivers in the area. Hire a boat or take a scheduled cruise on Lake Taupō. Jet boat or river boat cruise to the Huka Falls. Visit Huka Falls and watch as over 200,000 litres of water falls over the cliff face every second. Relax and unwind at one of the relaxing thermal pools or take part in a unique Maori cultural experience.

Geothermal Activities

There are hot springs and geothermal suprises all around the region, some suggestions include:
Craters of the Moon walk—an active thermal area with mud pools, craters and steam
Relax in the thermal baths at Wairakei Geothermal Visitor Centre
Visit Orakei Korako Geyserland, a valley of geysers, hot springs, mud volcanoes and silica terraces

Adventure 

Try a Bungy jump over the Waikato River
Take a scenic floatplane flight over Lake Taupo and Mount Ruapehu
Take a stroll through the beautiful Pureora Forest Park, just one hour from Lake Taupo

The Southern Side of the Lake

Check out the Mine Bay Carvings at Lake Taupo, the best way to view the carving is by sea kayak. Trips begin with a launch trip to the site, then visitors transfer to kayaks to view the carvings.

Walk through ancient rainforest in Whirinaki and Pureora Forest Parks, where some of New Zealand's rarest flora and fauna still thrive

Trout and fishing at Great Lake Taupo

The first trout fry were released over 100 years ago tinto the Lake Taupo region.  The Rainbow and Brown trout here are legendary for their condition and size.  The Tongariro River, a great spot for fly-fishing, has an estimated 750,000 trout swim up it every winter to spawn.
