Turangi is often the base camp for the Tongariro National Park - only 40 minutes away. It's famous for the two ski fields; Whakapapa and Turoa on Mt Ruapehu, which make New Zealand’s largest ski area.

There is also the lesser known Tukino Ski Fields, Mt Ruapehu's gem and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing starts here. Turangi sits on the edge of wilderness, and is bordered by the Kaimanawa Forest Park, which boasts great hunting, fishing and tramping.
 

Turangi Fishing

On the banks of the Tongariro River is one of the world’s best trout fishing destinations.

Visitors can head out with a guide on a wilderness fishing trip, or find their own trout fishing spot along the river. Turangi has some world class fishing lodges with experienced fishing guides. You can even charter a boat, and head out on Lake Taupo for some great lake fishing. Turangi caters for all angling needs.
